The much awaited Tribes’ competition will be the highlight of this year’s Salakayan Festival.

Miagao municipal mayor Macario Napulan said that this year the town’s local government has laid out several activities including the competition for the celebration of the Miagao town’s 301st founding anniversary and the 19th Salakayan Festival the competition.

“This is an opportune time for every Miagaowanons to slow down in their day-to-day activity, enjoy and be merry”, he said.

In this year’s competition seven tribes from different schools will take part.

The competing tribes are Tribu Bantalaan, Tribu Tabun-ak, Tribu Salagyawan, Tribu Tabuk-tabok, Tribu Buklod, Tribu Kabugwason, and Tribu Baklayanon.

Showcasing the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the townspeople with the theme, “Kari Kita sa Miagao, Kasaysayan, Kultura, kag pagtuo sang pumuluyo Ipadayun” started on February 1.

Opening with a mass at the Parish of St. Thomas of Villanove and the agro-trade fair, the twelve day festive began on February 6.

The same day, the festival’s opening salvo and street dancing competition, Salakayan re-enactment, opening of food fair, and the Miss Salakayan 2017 talent took place in the afternoon.

Other activities lined up are the Cavalcade of Dances, local sports competitions, Balikbanwa night, mass and fluvial parade, float parade, higante contest, and the coronation of the Queen of Miagao.
