Arayat, Philippines – China’s Ministry of Public Security started taking fingerprints of all foreign visitors in a purpose of security on its borders and immigration controls at Shenzhen airport today.

Foreign passport holders aged 14-70 will undergo the fingerprint process while other biometric data would also be collected depending on the matter.

China is the fifth country that require similar requirements in place. Japan, Taiwan, Cambodia, and United States are among the others.

There are currently 200,000 undocumented Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) based in China according to ACTS-OFW Representative John Bertiz.

Most of the undocumented OFWs in China work as household workers and private tutors.
